Human Trafficking: Two Corporations Join The Fight
Anyone who has followed the DVM For Hope blog or facebook page is by now well educated about the issue of human trafficking. In my very first post, I wrote about how 100,000 to 300,000 American children were trapped in the modern day evil of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking. In a more recent posts, I discussed sex trafficking in my home state of Georgia, where 12,400 men purchase sex with young women every month, as well as labor trafficking in the U.S. and abroad. Since I started DVM for hope, though, I’ve seen a huge increase in the awareness of the problem of trafficking. In this post, I’ll highlight how two corporations are helping fight back against human trafficking.
In-N-Out Burger and Slave 2 Nothing
For the month of January, In-N-Out Burger customers can join the fight against sex trafficking by donating to the company’s non-profit called Slave 2 Nothing. When you donate, In-N-Out will match your donation and raise it. According to their website, www.slave2nothing.org:
During January, in support of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, In-N-Out Burger® will match your donation 3-to-1 up to $250,000. Across all 50 states, victims of human trafficking silently cry for help. You can help us fight this injustice and bring hope to thousands in our very own communities. Human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of exploitation through forced labor or commercial sex acts.
The goals Slave 2 Nothing are impressive, including raising awareness about trafficking, supporting survivors, partnering with other organizations, rescue of victims, seeking justice, and providing healing from the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. And, because Slave 2 Nothing has the full backing of In-N-Out Burger, all of the money raised goes directly to the fight!
Delta Airlines and #GetOnBoard
Like In-N-Out, Delta Airlines has also joined the fight against trafficking. According to Delta’s website, 70% of trafficking victims arrive in the U.S. on airplanes. With this in mind, the airline has undertaken a major initiative to raise awareness among their employees and customers. According to the company website:
The campaign, developed with anti-human trafficking experts Polaris, calls customers to #GetOnBoard and shines a light on the estimated 25 million people enslaved today. It includes enhanced signage in airports and an inflight video that puts a face and story to modern slavery, depicting an unsuspected trafficking dynamic and highlighting indicators through the eyes of a young boy – the trafficking victim.
Passengers who watch the video will learn the number to the National Human Trafficking Hotline (see Important Numbers). Delta is supporting Polaris, the anti-trafficking organization that runs the hotline, with a $1 million grant. The airport signs will appear before the Super Bowl in Atlanta.
